Megan's Story

For years, Megan dreamed of trading her basement suite for a place she could call her own. "I work hard, I pay my bills on time," shares Megan, "But that doesn't mean life doesn't happen, and it's hard to save the kind of money you need for a down payment."

Upon hearing about AHCC from a coworker who had attended one of our information sessions, Megan had her reservations.

"I was the first to tell my friend that this was probably too good to be true... Or not for someone like me." But she soon became a believer.

When asked about her own particular experience with the Attainable Home Ownership Program, Megan had nothing but good things to say about the team: "They're very helpful. They make it work for you and what your needs are."

According to Megan, the process of purchasing a home through AHCC was dead simple.

"All you have to do is go to an info session that gives you all the information you could possibly need, and that answers all your questions. Then you find out how much home you're approved for...if you're approved...if you have good credit. The mortgage specialists do this for you as quickly as they can - even after hours. From there, once you're approved you pick out your unit, you sign the papers, you ask again: 'is this for real; can I actually do this; am I allowed?' And...you move in."

Homeownership means something different to everyone. For Megan it represented the future for her and her young son.

"I'm so thankful. It would have been years before I could even think of buying a home of my own. If it wasn't for AHCC, I'd still be living in a basement suite paying somebody else's mortgage."

WE MAKE HOME OWNERSHIP HAPPEN

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC) is a nonprofit social enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary that delivers well-appointed, entry-level homes for Calgarians who have been caught in the city’s growing housing affordability gap.

Through our Attainable Home Ownership Program, we connect builders, developers, lenders, lawyers and others to bring down the upfront costs of ownership so qualifying Calgarians can buy their very own home with a $2,000 down payment. Furthermore, when you decide to buy an attainable home, you're also choosing to pay it forward to help another family in the future. When you eventually decide to refinance or sell your home on the market, a share of the appreciation goes back into the program to fund more developments that will help even more people get a foot on the property ladder.

Do you aspire to own a home of your own? Contact us today and let us show you just how attainable this milestone can be.
